Nick Graham: Young Enterprise as social enterprise?

A seventeen year old entrepreneur with a conscience.

I’m here hopefully to make a profit, but I’m not here for that in and of itself; I’m here because this community needs me to be here.

Valiant words from the seventeen year old grocer of Truman in Minnesota. (via swissmiss)

This, along with the Make Your Mark with a Tenner campaign, are welcome in an environment where young entrepreneurs might be dissuaded from thinking about the broader community impact of their business.

Of course, the social ramifications of the Young Enterprise companies at my school selling heavily marked up rubbish to gullible parents were minimal — and it was certainly a good introduction to the world of retail — but it’s critically important that the business leaders of tomorrow understand the need for good environmental and social impact management.
